Choosing our coffee beans

At least 80% of all green coffee traded worldwide is exported under non-descript designations of origin. These coffees are bought up by intermediaries at the cheapest prices. The quality can be described as mediocre to very poor. Unfortunately, this is the reality, and very few people in this country want to confront what that means for millions of farmers.

We have developed our own criteria for purchasing green coffee. We consciously buy our green coffees above standard market commodity prices. We make purchase prices and further information regarding origin transparent for our coffees. In most cases, our green coffee purchase prices are significantly higher than the respective Fairtrade minimum price at the FOB level. For us, the decisive factor is not just the price, but also the quality, origin, and traceability of the respective supply chain. Quality naturally plays an equally important role for us. And in terms of taste, we have a special preference for coffees with very intense aroma profiles and high sweetness. Furthermore, we offer our customers an alternating, seasonally-oriented product range.

Green coffee of the highest standards

Only a few green coffee traders and equally few roasters worldwide—mostly medium to mid-sized roasteries, primarily in the USA and Scandinavia—currently manage to procure green coffee with a global, seasonally oriented approach at a high quality level.

However, beyond financial commitment and the purchase of coffee, both traders are naturally also concerned with long-term relationships. They work much more closely with the farmers. In this way, processing methods are optimized together, workers are trained, and new approaches to cultivation are developed. Long-term collaboration enables continuous quality development—from processing to the selection of individual lots.
